Korea Music Foundation


In 1984, the Korea Music Foundation (KMF) was chartered in the State of New York as a non-profit organization. Since it’s inception, the Foundation has presented over 50 solo New York debut recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hall, 7 Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble’s debut concerts at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center and has presented established artists in concert for fundraising events at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, including Kung-Woo Paik, Dong-Suk Kang, Young Uck Kim, Alissa Park, HeaSun Paik and Daejin Kim. In 1999, KMF inaugurated a chamber music series at the Korean Cultural Service New York and presented over 150 musicians at this venue. Since 2001, KMF launched the KMF Virtuoso Concert Series at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, presenting over 40 international musicians in chamber music concerts. Following the construction interruption at Tully Hall, we are pleased to resume this Series next season with our established, internationally active artists. Many of our KMF New York Debut artists are very busy in Korea, the US and Europe as both performers and teachers: Daejin Kim, pianist/conductor (Seoul National University of Arts), David Kim, violin/concert master (Philadelphia Orchestra), Chin Kim, violin (Mannes College of Music), Young Hoon Song, cello (Kyung Kee University), Sungwon Yang, cello (Yunsei University), Richard O'Neill, viola (University of Southern California), Choong-Jin Chang, viola (1st chair Philadelphia Orchestra), Myung Joo Ahn, flute (1st chair, KBS), June Han, harp (New York Philharmonic), Yunah Lee, soprano (New York City Opera and many houses throughout Europe), to name a few; as well as the Carnegie Hall debuts of the Suwon Philharmonic, Korean Symphony and pianist Kung-Woo Paik. Our main goal for this year is to reorganize our Board Members and Staff to encourage better communication with younger Koreans around the world.
