MEET THE ARTISTS
Hana Kim
clarinet

Clarinetist Hana Kim performs extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and his native Korea. He plays with such distinguished organizations as Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York City Opera, Riverside Symphony, Jupiter Symphony, New World Symphony, KBS Symphony, and the International Sejong Soloists, and has participated as a fellow at Tanglewood Music Center and National Repertory Orchestra. Mr. Kim has also appeared in many prestigious concert halls including Konzert Haus in Berlin, Concertgebouw Hall in Amsterdam, Musikverein in Vienna, New York¡¯s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and Seoul Arts Center in Korea.
In 2007, Mr. Kim gave an exceptional performance representing Korean musicians at the United Nations¡¯ Dag Hammarskjold Auditorium to an excited and raving audience. He also made his New York debut at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall as a winner of the Artists International Auditions, and as a chamber musician, was invited to perform at Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, Oregon, Summer Music at Harkness, Connecticut, and Buzzards Bay Musicfest in Massachusetts. In New York, he gives numerous concerts with such groups as Bargemusic, the Bachanalia Chamber Series, the Transfiguration Ensemble, Trio Alpha, and the contemporary music group Soundclock.
Mr. Kim won first prize in Dong-A Daily Newspaper Competition and KBS Young Artist Competition and received the Hugo Kortschak Award for outstanding achievement in chamber music from Manhattan School of Music where he earned a master¡¯s degree. He also holds a bachelor¡¯s degree from Seoul National University and a doctoral degree from SUNY at Stony Brook where he was an assistant conductor and concertmaster of the Stony Brook Wind Ensemble.
Mr. Kim¡¯s teaching experiences include clarinet faculty at Montclair State University, the Juilliard Pre-college division, Music Seminar in Kitakaruizawa, Japan, and masterclasses at Portland State University, and the Korean Clarinet Festival. His recording can be heard on Sony Classical.
Bongshin Ko

Praised by critics for her ¡°most perfect playing¡± (Internet Cello Society) with ¡°great warmth and beauty¡± (the Strad) cellist Bongshin Ko has appeared worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. She has been invited as a featured soloist to perform with Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Sinfonietta, Television and Radio Symphony of Moscow, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Korean Broadcasting Symphony (KBS), Korean Symphony, Zagreb Philharmonic, and Central Broadcasting Symphony of China. Ms. Ko was the first Korean artist to be invited to the China stage after the historic resumption of diplomatic relations between Korea and China in 1992. She has also been selected to perform the Asian premier of Bernard Rands Cello Concerto especially composed and dedicated to celebrate the 70th birthday of Mstislav Rostropovich in 1997
In her frequent participation in many international musical events, Ms. Ko has collaborated with some of the world renown artists including Mstislav Rostropovich, Bernard Greenhouse, Sir Georg Solti, Leonard Stein, Gunther Schuller, Semyon Bychkov and Valerie Gergiev. She has performed and taught at music festivals including Seoul International (Korea), Schleswig-Holstein, Kronberg Cello, 1999 Berlin Wall 10th Anniversary Concert, Rostropovich & Friends Concert (Germany), Beausolei (France), Este-Montagnana, Trento (Italy), Stradivarius Foundation Chesa da Cultura (Switzerland), del Mon Girona, Sociedad Filarmonica de Malaga, Teatre Metropol Tarragona, Fundacio Guifre Barcelona & Musica d¡¯Altafulla (Spain), American Cello Congress (90, 96, 03), Luigi Silva Centennial, Bernard Greenhouse Celebration (USA) and Hvar (Croatia).
As a recipient of over 30 international prizes and awards she has been featured and performed solo works to critical acclaim with Fuji TV (Japan), TV New Zealand, NDR (Germany), TV China, Korean Broadcasting Systems (KBS), NBC, CNS, KFAC, KMZT, KUSC, KFOX and several television and radio stations in Asia. Her most recent media appearance was in March 2006 on Fuji TV in Japan (www.fujitv.com/akari), where her artistic achievement was broadcast throughout Japan on their ¡°Successful Women in the US¡± mini documentary series.
Appearing regularly on Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)¡¯s Sundays Live Broadcast Concert Series (FM 105.1 Los Angeles & FM1050 San Francisco) Ms. Ko is currently cello professor at California State University, Fullerton. She is also on faculty at Emanuel Feuermann Conservatory of Kronberg in Germany as a Guest Exchange Professor and returns to various annual festivals throughout the world.
On September 5th, 1997 Ms. Ko performed the Asian premier of Bernard Rands Concerto for Cello and Orchestra as a featured soloist at the 10th Seoul International Music Festival with Korean Symphony Orchestra. This work was specially composed and dedicated to the 70th birthday of Mstislav Rostropovich and has been commissioned and world premiered by Rostropovich himself in April 1997 with Boston Symphony Orchestra.
 
Junie Cho

Pianist Junie Cho has appeared with orchestras and performed solo and chamber music recitals throughout the United States and in Asia. Her recent performance of Beethoven¡¯s ¡°Emperor¡± concerto with Prime Symphony Orchestra in New York City was acclaimed for its ¡°majestic resonance and graceful melodies.¡±
As a founding member and principal pianist of the New York Contemporary Music Band, Ms. Cho has given numerous performances of the World and U.S. premieres. Recent world premiere presentations include a performance at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, as part of the Fulbright Scholar Program of the U.S. Department of State, a Soundclock benefit concert at Merkin Hall, and a Composers' Roundtable concert at the Storm King Music Festival.
Ms. Cho gave her New York debut recital at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, in the Winners Series of the Artists International Presentations. Ms. Cho studied at Seoul National University, Indiana University, the Mannes College of Music, and Manhattan School of Music where she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. She is on the piano faculty of the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music, Diploma Programs, where she currently serves as Dean of Students.
